large ceramic serving dish
This large serving dish belongs to our Juggler series and is one of the stunning ceramics which we hand make and decorate in our workshops in Herefordshire, UK.
We make our dishes with grogged ceramic clay. This means that the tiny malachite fragments in the material make it more robust than usual, and because we glaze fire at a temperature of 1275 degrees the vitrification allows it to withstand heat. Furthermore it is easy to clean.
We paint the oxides on by hand before dipping it the glaze. In this case we use a mixture of cobalt and nickel which we paint onto the yellow oxide of the already biscuited surface. The brushstrokes show up in the glaze after firing, and give the whole dish a texture that is pleasing to the eye as much as the resulting colours. The juggler’s ability to throw objects in the air is the inspiration behind the motifs on the surface of the dish.
We also welcome one-off commissions either based on one of our existing designs or a completely new design to fit in with your own style. Please note that while we have made every effort to represent the colours of this dish there could be some slight variations between the colours in the photograph and those on the products.
